People looking for a small-to-medium-sized hatchback car for everyday ride have been presented an opportunity to own one with the introduction of Hyundai i20 model
The A2 segment premium hatchback car, introduced by Hyundai Motors Nigeria, is another fresh model with seating capacity for five people.
The Hyundai i20 has roomy, spacious and elegant interior with generous legroom and headroom for the driver and passengers alike.
Although the i20 is not as famous as the i10 and i30, but it is a great choice for car collectors, looking for an attractively priced functional car of between N2 million and N3 million that also has the practicality of a middle-to-upscale sedan.
Hyundai said they had uniquely designed this car for customers who want something trendier, bigger and sophisticated than the i10.
“The exterior dimensions of the i20 says more with the length put at 3940mm, width 1710mm; height 1505mm and a wheelbase of 2525mm,” the company said.
This is in addition to the ground clearance of 165mm, which makes the car remarkably comfortable for rides on bumpy roads.
Coupled with outstanding features like rear parking camera with display in the cabin, supervision cluster, fully automatic temperature control, clean air-cluster ionizer for fresh air in the cabin, the Hyundai i20 could from all indication, soon take the lead in the A2 segment, where Nissan Micra, Suzuki Swift and Ford Fiesta currently hold sway.
The car is also loaded with premium features like multi information display, 2-DIN CD/MP3 audio system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity along with steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.
Hyundai says every drive in the i20 is an experience in itself, especially when viewed against a long list of new features including theatre dimming central room lamp, centre console multipurpose storage box, front door map pockets, passenger side seat back pocket, coat hook, luggage hooks and glove box.
The Head, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors Nigeria, Mr. Jatin Nadkarni acknowledged the profile of the car, adding that the Hyundai i20 is available in four main specifications (entry-level Classic, mid-range Active, fuel-efficient Blue and Active Blue, and top-of-the-range Style) but only the top-of-the-range style with automatic transmission will be sold in the local markets, owing to customers convenience and traffic conditions.
Nadkarni explained that this variant is mated to a 1.4Litre Gamma engine with 4-speed automatic transmission, delivering 98.6bhp and 136Nm of torque.
On his projections for the i20 in this relatively new vehicle segment in Nigeria, Nadkarni said, “The new i20 will provide passengers with another level of choice and comfort especially when considered against its upscale features such as leather- wrapped steering wheel, driver seat arm rest, gear shift knob, tilt and telescopic steering, 60:40 split seats with cushion pop-ups for optimum passenger and luggage space utilisation.” According to him, the Hyundai i20 is a very safe car with an ultimate braking system equipped with Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) that helps in preventing wheel lock up during panic braking.
