Following the election of the former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primaries at the weekend, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused President Goodkuck Jonathan of manipulating the exercise to favour Fayose.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, said Fayose was teleguided to win the PDP primaries to pave the way for election rigging during the June 21 governorship poll.
According to him, “What this means is that the Jonathan presidency and the PDP have forgotten what happened in the past regarding Ekiti people.
He recalled how the former governor allegedly disrupted an Alliance for Democracy (AD) gathering at Matthew Street in Ado-Ekiti, noting that the likes of Chief George Akosile are still alive to relive the story.
He said Ekiti people would hold the president and the PDP responsible for every violent act of Fayose in the run-up to the governorship election and during and after the election.
“There are also 28 elderly persons in Fayose’s hometown who are beneficiaries of the social security scheme.
“This is besides the 10 young persons enrolled by the State Youth Volunteer Corps who on a monthly basis earn N10, 000,” Daniel said.
However, reacting to the allegations, the Chairman, publicity committee, Ekiti PDP Governorship Campaign Organisation, Mr Gboyega Aribisogan, said: “It is not true that Mr. President foisted Ayo Fayose on Ekiti.
He pointed out that PDP members in Ekiti had decided for a candidate of their choice, which the party constitution and electoral act recognised as the procedure for nominating a candidate of political party.
“What Ekiti PDP has done is legal and in compliance with the electoral act and party constitution.
Daniels insisted that:”We should ask Fayemi about the death of PDP members in Erijiyan and Emure, where a House of Assembly member is currently facing trial for murder.
“The state chairman is also facing trial for the murder of Ayo Jeje and Mrs. Adewunmi and others,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PDP has constituted a five-member team to handle Fayose’s campaign ahead of the June 21 governorship election in the state.
The party made this known in a statement signed by its State Secretary, Dr. Tope Aluko, yesterday in Ado- Ekiti.
The statement named a lawyer and businessman, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, as the Director-General of the campaign team.
A former State Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Associatuion (NBA) and one-time Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi was named the Deputy Director-General.
Others members are a retired woman permanent secretary, Dr. Modupe Alade, who will serve as Secretary while Chief Awodunmula will serve as Treasurer and Chief Gboyega Aribisogan, as Director of Publicity.
