You can become anything you want to become. There is a popular saying that whatsoever the heart of man conceive and believe, it can achieve. This is very true, I know because i have personally tried it and it has worked for me. If you are not comfortable with your current state, then you need to wake up and do something about your situation. You can’t keep doing the same things over and over again and expect different results. I’m going to show you in the simplest possible way how you can get from where you are to where you want to be. There are 5 major steps involved however and I will explain all five in detail in the following paragraphs.
Be clear about where you are: this is perhaps the most important step of all. This requires a genuine and very objective evaluation of where you are. It could be spiritually, academically, in your career or even your finances. You need to ask the following questions; why am I here? What am I doing right or wrong? What should I continue to do? What should I stop doing? In asking these questions, you need to be very truthful to yourself and look deep within you to find these answers.
Be clear on where you want to be: where do I want to be? This is a very big question, “I am presently earning #100,000 and I want to start earning #1,000,000”. “I have two kids but I want four”. You have a Bsc but you want a PhD. It could be anything at all. The key is having the power to see and dream big and having faith enough to believe it.
Decide on how you want to get there: just like you need a map and a vehicle to travel by road to a new destination, the same is true for your journey in life. You need a map which is a plan and a vehicle which is the means. Imagine you want to increase your earnings by 100% in the coming year, your map/plan could be to double your income from next month for the next one year and the vehicle/means is the new job or business you want to start in order to arrive at your goal. In creating a plan, you have to look at every technicality involved and be specific. Always remember that your goal has to be measurable, achievable, realistic and specific (MARS).
Determine the cost involved: these are the things you need to start doing or stop doing, acquire or let go. It is the sacrifice you need to make, the extra length you need to go, the extra hours you need to work. Don’t forget that if you keep doing the same things, you will keep getting the same results. For instance, for you to earn more, you need to learn more. You need to stretch yourself, determine the resource, time, money, activities, relationships, education and so on that you need to acquire or let go of in order to achieve your dreams. If you want your wife and children to love and respect you more, you need to start spending more quality time with them. I hope you get the idea.
Move: “If you can’t fly, run. If you can’t run, walk. If you can’t walk, crawl. But by all means, keep moving.” – Martin Luther King Jr. After planning, the next thing is execution, you need to take action. The truth is that to be truly excellent, you need to take consistent actions that move you closer to your goals every day. Keep it simple and write your goals down breaking them into little bits. As you achieve one goal, move to the next. The more you achieve these goals, the more motivated you become.
I urge you to take immediate action and start this process. You can’t just exist and not truly live. Start taking bold steps today. Stretch yourself beyond limits but don’t collapse. Kindly leave a comment below; let’s have your point of view.
