5 Things You Need to Know Before You Turn 35

Many people have regrets today because of things they did not do yesterday, some because of things they wish they had not done. Some of the popular opinions are “I wish I wrote that exam when I was younger” or “how I wish I took that relationship more seriously” and so on. There are 5 major lessons I believe you need to learn in life before you turn 35. If you can successfully learn these lessons, you will achieve your dreams much faster than you ever thought possible.

What you do today determines who you become tomorrow: one of my favorite quotes is “to become great tomorrow, start doing great things today”. Life is as simple as that but you see people doing just the opposite. They act like idiots today thinking that they will become great overnight. Don’t confuse power for greatness please; most of our leaders and politicians are just in position, once the leave that position, we rarely remember them. Act like a great man wherever you are, act like a success and you will eventually become great and successful. People like Mandela made great sacrifices, but they pay in advance. He was in prison for 27 years paying the price for greatness and he got the prize. Start paying your own price today so you can win a prize tomorrow.

Time is your greatest friend and your worst enemy: while ordinary men spend time, great men invest it. We all have 24 hours a day. One of my tweeter followers recently tweeted “I wish I had more than 24 hours per day because I have many great things to do”. I knew immediately that she probably didn’t think that statement through. All great men had or have 24 hours too, so how come they are great and you are not? The truth is, even if I had 40 hours every day, I will probably still end up wasting the extra hours. What you need to do is look at where you want to be in the next 10 to 20 years and determine the kind of things (work, activities) you need to do every day in order to get there. Once you figure this out, make sure you perform these activities first every day before moving to other less significant things. This is how to invest your time.

You cannot please everybody: this is one lesson I learned the hard but I will save up the story for another day. Human beings are designed in such a way that we can never be satisfied. No matter what you do, some people will still condemn you. The only true friends you have are the ones that will respect your decision no matter what it is, so don’t try to jeopardize your career or life because you’re trying to please somebody. Once you have your values and beliefs, try not to compromise it for any reason, all successful men live by principles and you ought to also if you are ever going to become one.

You have to fall to rise: We are human beings and I can assure you that neither you nor I is perfect. We have to fall sometimes. I love to fall but early, I have taken so many risks in my life already and the reason is that I want to learn from my mistakes now so I won’t repeat them in the future when they will be more costly. If you are trying to live your life carefully, you might succeed but you will end up being relevant only in your family. Truly successful men took bold risks. I read about the man who first got the idea of transmitting messages without wires via radio or television, his name is Marconi. Marconi’s friends took him into custody and examined in a psychopathic hospital. What a mistake! What I’m saying in summary is don’t be afraid to fall, take risks but be smart about it because only after you’ve fallen have you truly risen.

You can become anything you want: life is give and take. You have to give up some things to get some; you have to give up video games to get better grades, you have to give up procrastination to become more productive and so on. The reason why a lot of people don’t reach their dreams is because they don’t want to give up their old habits and ways forgetting that it is insanity to keep doing the same things expecting to get different results. Whatsoever the heart of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. There are three major steps to becoming all you want in life. First is determining what exactly you want. Second is to make yourself believe that you can achieve it no matter what and finally you determine what you need to do to get there and resolve to do it.
