We have different kinds of leaders in the world today with different levels of influence and respect. The greatest leaders are those that John Maxwell referred to in his book ‘How Successful People Lead’ as Pinnacle Leaders. These are the leaders that other leaders respect and are greatly influenced by. What are the qualities that make these leaders so special and unique?

They are people of Vision

Great leaders have great vision. Apart from submitting to a leader because of her personality, one thing people also submit to is the vision of the leader. I’ve noticed that a lot of people want to go somewhere but they don’t know where they want to go, they want to be a part of something bigger than them, something that gives them a sense of accomplishment but they need someone with a clear and superior vision to guide and direct them to where they desire to be. That’s why sometimes you see people with organizations of their own though they are doing pretty well sell it off to partner with another organization, the reason is that they have found something bigger than what they eventually started and they want to be part of the success story.

They have great level of Influence

Great leaders have great influence; this is true because leadership is all about influence. This is why a lot of people follow them. They have built influence over time by caring for people, building relationships, believing the best of their followers and bringing out the best in them. They also build influence by giving their time, energy and resources to imparting and inspiring those they lead. Some leaders go through the pain of knowing the names of all the people in their organization and some details about them. This is a gradual way but also the surest way to build influence. It’s not something you buy, it’s something you earn and develop by showing that you really care about the people you are leading beyond profits and material gains.

They have consistent Values

Great leaders are predictable; their words are consistent with their action. They don’t preach one thing and do something different. If you will grow to become a great leader, then you must be predictable. People should be able to predict your decision in some difficult situations and your answer to difficult questions. Since leaders set the pace for others to follow, then you must always strive to ensure that the right example is being set. When leaders are involved in scandals and compromise, the reputation they have spent years to build can be shattered in a minute. The media houses today love such situations because it makes good news and they are always more than ready to assist you in destroying your life.

They are humble and respectful

Like they say, respect is reciprocal. Great leaders earn the respect of others because they respect others too. This is a basic principle in life; you get in return what you give to others. Great leaders understand that humility is the path to greatness. It’s also true that people don’t like arrogant people, those who think themselves superior or more important than others. I love the life Mother Theresa lived, she displayed her leadership through her humility and tenderness and it paid off in the end.
