Tips for Creating Spectacular Infographics

Infographics have rapidly become a very important part of a company’s social presence on the internet and online marketing tools.  There are good ways to give customers some quick information about a business or product.  When done correctly, infographics can draw consumers to your website for more information, and hopefully, sales.  There are certain points to keep in mind when creating an infographic.

Getting Started

  1. Know your audience. This is a fundamental rule in internet marketing. The method of relaying information to shoppers is going to be very different from the method used to relay information to other business owners. Choose your style and information carefully.
  2. Create an amazing headline. The whole point of an infographic is to draw consumers in, and that starts with a headline that grabs their attention.  Keep it simple, yet descriptive.
  3. Always use accurate data that is relevant to the customer. Use sources that have good reputations, and always double-check your facts before publishing.  Make sure you give proper credit to your sources when necessary.

Design to Please

Give your infographic a simple, clean design.  The infographic should be visually appealing to the viewer.  Limit your choices in color to those pleasing to the eye.  Be consistent throughout the document with fonts and colors, and choose simple graphics, so that the infographic isn’t too busy.  The ideal size is 753 pixels wide, with no more than 5,000 pixels in length.  Longer lengths won’t hold the customer’s attention.  The point is to convey the information to the customer with one glance. Using data visualization tools, such as pie charts, to clearly show the data.  Try to make the sections flow by transitioning from one to another.  Adding some white space will keep the infographic from looking too busy, which distracts the reader.


Your infographic should tell a story.  It should answer a question that the customer has, even if the customer hasn’t realized that question yet.  Provide small chunks of information that can easily be remembered, and try to pull some kind of emotional response from the reader.  However, don’t use too much text.  Let your graphics tell the story for you.  After all, that’s the point of using an infographic.

Let the World See

Make the infographic shareable.  Sign it with an embedded code, and include links for readers to share the infographic on social media.  The more people who see your information, the more people will visit your website, and in turn, increase your sales.

Infographics are a proven way to attract the attention of potential customers.  Giving them necessary information can pull them in, and that’s half the battle.
